I started filling it at the max level and the problem went away. I think the car sucks out more coolant out of the expansion tank with spirited driving and if you're right at minimum then of course it will trigger the sensor but the would go away as the coolant fills the expansion tank back up. First time it happened I pulled over just like you to check for obvious leaks, let it cool down a bit then checked the level only to see that it's right where i filled it up to. I used to fill up my coolant right on the minimum level because I figured the less pressure on the system the better, but I noticed that I'd always get a quick low coolant warning with spirited driving. I'm taking it to my mechanic this Friday for other reasons, but I'd like to hear from others on the boards-any idea what this could be? If the coolant level is okay and not dropping, what would the fluid be? Could the fluid and coolant be unrelated? Why was the fluid there last night but not this morning? This morning the coolant level was unchanged and there was no fluid under the car. Then I noticed a rivulet of yellowish fluid (it wasn't water but it wasn't oil either-yes, I see the opportunity for humor here too!) slowly coming from under the side of my car, perhaps from an area roughly under the dashboard (not from directly under the engine). ![]() ![]() The coolant was at or just a smidgen below the minimum level-perhaps enough to trigger a coolant sensor? I don't know, but it seemed like there was enough coolant. I pulled off the freeway, parked and shut it down, and checked the coolant level about 15 minutes later. I've read several threads on green or yellow fluids that leak onto the pavement, but I can't quite tell which of them apply to my car.
